What this site knows about you
"Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men." — 2 Corinthians 8:21
Almost nothing. Here is all of it.
Nothing we ask for
No account, no sign-up, no forms, no email list, no cookies, no ads. The whole book is free, and nothing is asked of you for it.
The host
The site is served by Cloudflare. Like every web server, it has to see your internet address and which page you asked for, simply to send the page back to you. We do not keep a list of who visited.
Counting visits
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count how many people read the book, which pages they reach, what kind of device they use, their country, and which site sent them here. It uses no cookies, does not follow you to other sites, and builds no profile of you. We see only totals.
On your own device
- The paper remembers whether you folded up its table of contents.
- The book remembers, for this visit only, that it has already refreshed itself for a new version.
Both stay on your device and are never sent anywhere.
Everything else comes from here
The paintings, the words and the fonts are all served from balthazar.sh itself. Apart from Cloudflare, who hosts the site and counts the visits, no other company is told that you are reading.
If you click out
A few links lead elsewhere: the "share" links on the paper, the source code on GitHub, and a Lightning tip address. Those only open if you choose them, and then that site's own rules apply.
